After the breakup of legendary UK punk band Sex Pistols, John Lydon (AKA Johnny Rotten) formed Public Image Ltd (PiL), a groundbreaking band which has lived on nearly 15 times longer than his first one. He has kept the band alive ever since, through changes in band members and style, fighting to constantly reinvent new ways of approaching music – and never seeming to lose his ability to shock and scandalize with his radical ideas of artistic integrity.
On November 2nd, 3rd, and 7th at 7:30pm, The Frida Cinema presents The Public Image is Rotten, a new documentary by Tabbert Fiiller in which former and current band mates – as well as fellow icons like Flea, Ad-Rock and Thurston Moore – add testimony to electrifying archival footage of the trailblazing punk pioneer at work (including stills and audio from the infamous Ritz Show). With his trademark acerbic wit and unpredictable candor, Lydon offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of music’s most influential and controversial careers.
