Experience two of the most terrifying and unrelenting horror films of the 21st Century back-to-back, as we present a Double Feature of Danny Boyle’s 2002 classic 28 Days Later, followed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s intense 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later!
Completely eschewing the then-popular approach to injecting comedy into horror – particularly in the zombie genre, or anything close to it – Boyle’s brutal 28 Days Later finds Jim (Cillian Murphy) waking up in an empty London hospital. He steps outside to find the streets similarly empty of people, but full of hauntingly mysterious remnants of some epic disaster: and when he does encounter humans, he finds that they’ve been transformed into raging, bloodthirsty killing machines. Teaming with a group of survivors, portrayed by a pedigree of UK talent including Academy Award nominee Naomie Harris, Golden Globe nominee Brendan Gleeson, and BAFTA nominee Christopher Eccleston, Jim sets out on a quest for survival in a nightmarish and unimaginably hostile world.
Masterfully keeping the mood and style of the original intact, director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo picked up the director reins from Boyle with his 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, a rare horror sequel that lives up to its original, and also cast with acclaimed performers including Trainspotting’s Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, and Idris Elba. Seven months after the cataclysm that destroyed England, an international coalition lead by the US has begun resettling London, safely behind the walls of a massive bunker. After an Army doctor discovers a survivor who has been infected but otherwise shows no symptoms, she finds renewed hope that there may be a cure for the virus that continues to threaten humanity – but she must act fast, as a breakout within the bunker threatens to wipe out what is left of the London population.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience both films on the big screen, back-to-back and as a single-ticket Double Feature!
