BLOODSPORT: 30th Anniversary

December 9, 2018 @ 8:00 pm

Like a roundhouse kick to the face, the martial arts cult classic Bloodsport slams back to the big screen in celebration of its 30th Anniversary!  Experience the movie that made Jean-Claude Van Damme – the “Muscles from Brussels” – a star!

Based on the (largely unverified, but he swears it’s all true…) true story of martial artist and fight choreographer Frank Dux, Bloodsport stars Van Damme as Dux, an American soldier who travels to Hong Kong to be accepted into the Kumite, a highly secret and extremely violent martial-arts competition. While trying to gain access into the underground world of clandestine fighters, he also has to avoid military officers who consider him to be AWOL. After enduring a difficult training and beginning a romance with journalist Janice Kent (Leah Ayres), Frank is given the opportunity to fight. But can he survive?

Featuring a stunning myriad of fighting styles, the most obvious soundtrack in cinema history, and, oddly, Forest Whitaker, Bloodsport is a joyous celebration of masculinity, and more 80’s than Dolph Lundgren jazzercising on the hood of a Ferrari.  Throw on a headband and get tickets today!

1988. Directed by Newt Arnold. 92 mins. Rated R.

Saturday, December 8th – 9pm (followed by Q&A with writer Sheldon Lettich!)
