BULLITT: 50th Anniversary

November 10, 2018 @ 12:00 pm

Buckle up for the 50th Anniversary of Peter Yates’ legendary cop drama Bullitt, a jazz-backed work of thrilling auto-cinema starring legendary actor and “king of cool” Steve McQueen.

Police officer Frank Bullitt (McQueen) is tasked by opportunistic politician Senator Walter Chalmers (Robert Vaughn) with protecting Johnny Ross, a witness who has agreed to roll on his brother, San Francisco mob boss Pete Ross (Victor Tayback).  With only three days until the trial, his routine protection detail soon turns into a murder investigation as he goes up against a Winchester shotgun-wielding assassin, and a host of other deadly foes in this gritty whodunnit mystery.

Complemented by breakneck, Oscar-winning editing by Frank P. Keller, Steve McQueen garnered a daredevil reputation early in his Hollywood career by performing many of his own stunts, an endeavor virtually unheard of by leading actors at the time.  Feel the engines of a 1968 Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger revving through the screen as they tear through the hilly, narrow streets of San Francisco in the classic crime film Bullitt!

1968. Directed by Peter Yates. PG. 114 minutes.

Saturday, November 10th – 12pm, 2:15pm, 4:30pm
Sunday, November 11th – 12pm, 2:15pm, 4:30pm

“The action sequences are brilliant, done without trickery in real locations (including a great car chase which spawned a thousand imitations) to lend an extraordinary sense of immediacy to the shenanigans and gunfights.” – Time Out

“Slick, stylish and ineffably cool, this was perhaps McQueen’s defining role. Also mention goes to the uncredited star of the film; San Francisco.” – Clark Collis, Empire Magazine

“Bullitt takes a rather simple nugget of a story and turns it into a crime classic through the expert use of location footage, editing, music, mood and timing, not to mention the laconic, stoic performance of ultra-cool star Steve McQueen.” – Jeffrey M. Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
