Crunchyroll at The Frida Cinema returns with the first U.S. theatrical debut of classic anime adventure Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card!

Despite winning the Feature Film Award at the 2000 Animation Kobe, the popular Japanese feature-film finale to the anime television series Cardcaptor Sakura – itself an adaptation of the popular manga – has never seen the big screen in America!  Released by Clamp – an all-female Japanese manga artist group that formed in the mid-1980s – Cardcaptor Sakura focuses on Sakura Kinomoto, an elementary school student who discovers that she possesses magical powers after accidentally freeing a set of magical cards from a book that had been sealed for years. She is then tasked with retrieving those cards in order to avoid an unknown catastrophe from befalling the world, while dealing with the anxieties of teen angst and first love.  The manga series was adapted into a 70-episode anime television series by Madhouse, ultimately leading to video games, art books, picture books, film comics, and the release of two feature films – all culminating with The Sealed Card!
