5pm Mixer / 6pm Film

On Sunday, June 25, we welcome our Frida Cinema Film Club family to a special Appreciation Event we’ve put together just for them!  At 5pm, join us in The Frida Cinema lobby for an informal mixer, where you can meet other Film Club Members, our Staff and Board, and munch on some hors d’oeuvres courtesy of our friends Chef Richard Espinachio and The Robbins Nest!  We’ll enter the auditorium at 5:30pm for a presentation outlining the progress that the support of our Film Club Members have helped us achieve – as well as to take a sneak peek at some of the developments on the horizon! – then at 6pm, we will present director Alfonso Cuarón’s extraordinary 2006 masterpiece, Children of Men.

Based on the dystopian – and timely – novel The Children of Men by P. D. James, Children of Men takes place a mere twenty years into the future, when mankind is headed towards certain extinction after humans have lost the ability to conceive children, and the world’s youngest citizen has just died at the age of 18.  With the world in chaos, illegal immigrants seek sanctuary in the United Kingdom, where the last functioning government imposes oppressive immigration laws on refugees.  Theo (Clive Owen), a former activist turned disillusioned bureaucrat, becomes the unlikely champion in the fight for the survival of Earth’s population, after he reunites with Julian (Julianne Moore), a resistance fighter.  When Julian and her crew let Theo in on their unbelievable secret – they have discovered a pregnant woman, and have committed themselves to shepherding her to safety – he must embark on a desperate journey to restore faith for a future beyond those presently on Earth.

This special event is for our Frida Cinema Film Club Members only, at both Standard and Premiere levels.   New Members are welcome to join at, and will be welcome to the screening so long as they join by Friday, June 23 (and/or behind our RSVP list fills up!).
