To truly celebrate our favorite “overrated” icon, we’re bringing together two of Streep’s heaviest foreign-accent hitters – A Cry in the Dark and The Bridges of Madison County – as a double feature! On February 5th, these two spectacular films will be screened back-to-back starting at 5:00pm – one tickets gets you into both films!
See Meryl Streep transform herself into Australian mother Lindy Chamberlain, whose assertion that her baby was eaten by a dingo was the basis of what is perhaps the country’s most notorious and heated investigations and trials. Director Fred Schepisi’s fact-based 1988 drama A Cry in the Dark may have given rise to one of the 20th centuries most oft-humorously-quoted film moments, but it nevertheless remains a powerful, humanizing film.
Director Clint Eastwood showed his soft side by directing the 1995 big-screen adaptation of Robert James Waller’s tearjerker The Bridges of Madison County, in which Eastwood stars as National Geographic photographer Robert Kincaid, who arrives in the titular Iowa county to shoot photographs of its historic bridges – only to meet, and fall in love with, married Italian farmer’s wife Francesca. Streep picked up SAG, Golden Globe, and Oscar nominations for her turn as the listless and passionate Francesca, in this undeniably romantic film that once again showcased the actress’ uncanny ability to deliver amazing performances while carrying a foreign accent.
