If you’re going to get a gang together to stage a risky heist to steal millions of dollars, what better target than President Richard Nixon’s illegal political slush fund? The Frida Cinema is proud to present a one-week run of director Mark Steven Johnson’s Finding Steve McQueen – a thrilling and hilarious indie caper based on actual events!
Travis Fimmel (Viking) stars as Harry James Barber, who along with a unlikely gang of thieves attempts to steal $30 million in illegal campaign contributions from President Nixon’s secret fund in 1972 – right here in Orange County, CA. Unfortunately, the plan quickly goes sideways (their first misstep is almost too ridiculous to be believed, were it not 100% true…), and leads to the biggest bank heist manhunt in FBI history.
A thoroughly entertaining ride that also serves as a fun slice of local history, Finding Steve McQueen co-stars Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, Rachael Taylor, William Fichtner, and American Horror Story’s Lily Rabe.
