This month gives us our next Friday the 13th!  So true to our word, we are continuing with what we started – to screen every Friday the 13th film, installment to installment on each passing Friday the 13th – and on July 13th, we invite you to witness the birth of one of cinema’s greatest slashers as we present Friday the 13th Part 2!

Yes, as every horror lover knows, ’twas Mrs. Voorhees who went after the campers in the 1980 original, but in this 1981 sequel – which takes place five years after the bloodbath at Camp Crystal Lake – it’s Jason himself (albeit still without the iconic hockey mask to come…) who’s tallying up the body count.  When camp counselors Paul (John Furey) and Ginny (Amy Steel) gather a new group of libidinous counselors around the campfire, Paul scares the group with the legend of Jason, a boy drowned in the lake many years ago and whose mother went on a murderous rampage afterward. No one believes the ghost story – until a killer in a mask begins violently eliminating them one by one.

Shot just months after the first film premiered, Part 2 features incredible makeup from Carl Fullerton (Silence of the Lambs) and a classic score from Harry Manfredini. Trading the mystery of the first film for more laughs and gore, Friday the 13th Part 2 is an exemplary 1980s summer camp slasher flick.  Join us – and catch the next installment on the next Friday the 13th!

Directed by Steve Miner. 87 minutes. 1981. Rated R.

Friday, July 13 – 3:30pm, 6pm, 8pm

“Part 2 still stands as an iconic and important entry in the series due to the introduction of Jason as the antagonist of the series and the usage of Italian horror films as an inspiration for its death scenes.” – Bloody Disgusting

“Yes, it’s a cheesy slasher film. But you know that going in, and this is a well-done example of the genre.” – IGN

“Knowing where the character of Jason evolves as the franchise continues, the entry feels particularly special as it shows the killer in his most animalistic of modes.” – Bloody Good Horror
