Ask any die-hard horror fan, and they’ll tell you – Halloween may be his masterpiece, but 1995’s mind-bender In the Mouth of Madness is where John Carpenter really freaked us out.  We are excited to complement this month’s screenings of Carpenter classics Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing with this ultra-creepy and utterly bizarre unsung horror classic, screening November 22 and 25.  Advance tickets now available at The Frida Cinema’s box office, or online by clicking here.

Sam Neill stars as John Trent, an insurance investigator who is hired by the publisher of world-famous horror author Sutter Cane (Jürgen Prochnow, essentially standing in for Stephen King) to find Cane, who has gone missing.  Suspecting that Cane might be behind the disappearance, and skeptical of claims by Cane’s editor Linda Styles (Julie Carmen) that “less stable readers” of Cane’s novels sometimes experience disorientation and paranoia, Trent sets out to find Cane with Styles in tow – only to find themselves arriving in Hobb’s End, the fictional location of many of Cane’s tales.  Trent continues to smell a major orchestrated publicity stunt, particularly as all the terrifying events mentioned in Cane’s books seem to come to pass in this innocuous village – until he starts to experience his own grip on reality start to erode, and the mayhem around him becomes increasingly convincing…
