Ah, who are we kidding? Get ready to laugh out loud and go on wild goose chase with pretty much every major star of the era, as It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World crashes into The Frida! When a traffic jam is caused by manic driver Smiler Grogan (Jimmy Durante), it is revealed to the drivers around them that he has buried a stolen fortune “under the big W”. Now they must race against each other to find it in what might be Hollywood’s most grandly harebrained movie ever, a pileup of slapstick and borscht-belt-y one-liners performed by a nonpareil cast!
And what a cast! Cheer along for Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Jonathan Winters, Phil Silvers, Buddy Hackett – and Mr. Spencer Tracy himself! We’ll be presenting a 197-minute extended version of the film, reconstructed and restored by Robert A. Harris using visual and audio material from the longer original road-show version!
“The definitive wacky screwball comedy that spawned a genre!” – Ian Nathan, Empire
“The comic competition is so keen that it is impossible to single out any one participant as outstanding.” – Variety Staff, Variety
“So many excellent actors and stunt men do so much in this film that it is beyond my space allowance to begin to credit them.” – Bosley Crowther, New York Times
