MAD MAX: FURY ROAD – BLACK & CHROME EDITION: Friday Night Freakouts
February 24 @ 11:00 pm
As the release of Mad Max: Fury Road approached in 2015, no one could have anticipated George Miller’s fourth installment of his 36-year-old action franchise would end up being nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning a whopping six, and grossing $378,000,000 worldwide. Then the film came out, we experienced Miller’s exhilarating high-octane vision, and we were collectively blown away.
But – did you know George Miller prefers his film in black-and-white?
“One thing I’ve noticed is that the default position for everyone is to de-saturate post-apocalyptic movies,” Miller told Slashfilm in an interview. “There’s only two ways to go: make them black and white, or really go all-out on the color. The best version of this movie is black and white, but people reserve that for art movies now. The usual teal and orange thing? That’s all the colors we had to work with. The desert’s orange and the sky is teal, and we either could de-saturate it, or crank it up, to differentiate the movie.”
Now thanks to Warner Bros., we are pleased to present a gorgeous 4K DCP version of Mad Max: Fury Road Black & Chrome Edition, referred to by The Guardian as “unquestionably a fascinating way to re-evaluate the greatest action film of the new millennium.” Mind-blowing as it ever was, this striking new version allows audiences an opportunity to witness the grandiosity of this action epic with a fresh perspective: stripped of color, the intricately-designed vehicles and weaponry, Oscar-winning makeup, and barren post-apocalyptic landscapes still mesmerize while exuding even more of a desolate and nihilistic tone – Dystopia as a world void of color, where the action nevertheless thrills the senses and boggles the eyes.
