PACIFIC RIM: The Films of Guillermo del Toro
A consummate explorer of the nature, complexity, and ultimate meaning of a “monster,” here del Toro asks: what if it takes a monster to destroy a monster? In the not-so-distant future, monsters known as Kaiju have risen from the sea to lay waste to humanity, leading to a brutal war that has taken millions of lives and diminished the earth’s resources. To battle the Kaiju, humanity have constructed Jaegers, massive robots controlled by two pilots who share control in a neural bridge. When even the Jaegers appear powerless against the evolving Kaiju, mankind’s last hope lies on two Jaeger operators – traumatized former pilot Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and new trainee Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi).
Featuring dozens of meticulously detailed creatures designed by del Toro, Pacific Rim once again finds the director employing fantasy to explore the real-life themes of war and peace, love and loss, and human heroism and villainy, this time eschewing his traditional horror genre tropes for those of science-fiction.

“In a field rife with impostors and poseurs, Del Toro, like his mentors, is the real deal. It’s good to have him working his magic again.” – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
