An insightful and intimate celebration of the performers who become icons of the horror genre, focusing on the man who would become one of its most prolific slashers, director Derek Dennis Herbert’s new documentary feature To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story screens daily July 20th – 26th at The Frida Cinema!
To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story is the harrowing story of a stuntman who overcomes a dehumanizing childhood filled with torment and bullying in Sparks, Nevada. After surviving a near-death burn accident, Hodder worked his way up through Hollywood, leading to his ultimate rise as the man in the hockey mask – Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th series.
Featuring interviews with several legends of the horror cinema genre, including Bruce Campbell (Ash of the Evil Dead series), Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger of the A Nightmare on Elm Street series), and Cassandra Peterson (Elvira herself), To Hell and Back invites audiences to experience the uniquely human stories of Hodder and his fellow performers who have dedicated their lives to providing thrills and screams for generations of horror lovers.

“Inspiring, life-affirming, and beautifully crafted, … [a] documentary that highlights the importance of horror as a genre, as a form of art, and as a means of catharsis.” – Jonathan Barkan, Dread Central
“Interweaves Hodder’s rise as a stuntman, stunt coordinator and genre actor with unexpected details from his real life – like the bullying he faced as a child, or the horrific physical and mental damage he sustained in an early fire stunt gone wrong.” – Anton Bitel, SciFiNow
