David Lynch’s acclaimed cult phenomenon Twin Peaks returns to television with a LONG-awaited third season on May 21 – so catch up on the show on Netflix, and join us Friday, May 19 for a special screening of the film that told the untold story of the fate of Laura Palmer, TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME!
With the television show already having answered the then-burning question “Who killed Laura Palmer?,” Lynch’s 1992 feature film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me fills in Laura Palmer’s last days alive, as well as taking us back a year to the murder of Teresa Banks, victim to the same wrapped-in-plastic fate as Laura. Not having to deal with content restrictions levied by television, the Twin Peaks universe bursts wide open, its occult, paranoid, and violent core coming to the fore in a startling film that is so much more than simply an opportunistic big-screen jump. Welcoming almost the entire cast of the original television show back to the woods, while also introducing new faces (including singers David Bowie and Chris Isaak) to further expand its world of wondrously perplexing characters, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is a jarring haze of scenic northern woods, graphic sex and drug use, and supernatural and often nightmarish images all set to a loud, unrelenting soundtrack, existing in a thick fog of teen angst, fear, and desperation that suffuses even the film’s most lush and beautiful moments in telling the back-story of one of pop culture’s most iconic who-done-it murders.
“In its own singular, deeply strange way, Fire Walk With Me is David Lynch’s masterpiece. Rating: 4/4” – Calum Marsh, Village Voice
