Selected by our Volunteer of the Month: Keefer Blakeslee!

Before he was hanging out with Thor and Hulk and hunting for the “Wilderpeople”, acclaimed New Zealand director Taika Waititi was making mockumentaries about the struggles of the modern world according to…vampires?

Join us on May 29th and 30th as we close out the month with our Volunteer of the Month Keefer Blakeslee’s programming pick: the uproarious and refreshingly original 2014 comedy,What We Do In The Shadows! The story, told in documentary form (think Spinal Tap for the undead) follows a group of vampires who provide some insight into their nightly routines, including tasks that are simple and routine for us humans, but that otherwise present real nuisances for vampires. Released in the post-Twilight world, What We Do In The Shadows is just the remedy we need for the epidemic of uninspired creature features in the new millennium.

A mean, lean joke machine that provides non-stop laughs, the film stars writer-directors Waititi and Jermaine Clement, along with Rhys Darby, Jonathan Brugh, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Stu Rutherford, and Jackie Van Beek.

Tuesday, May 29 – 3:30pm, 6pm, 8pm, 9:45pm
Wednesday, May 30 – 1:30pm, 3:30pm, 6pm, 8pm, 9:45pm

“The New Zealand-made art comedy What We Do in the Shadows is a bracing reminder of how the right burst of energy and style breathes fresh ideas into a genre threatened with creative exhaustion.” -Patrick Z McGavin, Chicago Suns-Times

“Proves that some tropes, like the undead and roommate problems, are eternally funny.” – Kevin P Sullivan, Entertainment Weekly

“I found myself cackling at ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ like a witch with a helium balloon.” – Anthony Lane, New Yorker
