WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY – Calle Cuatro Sunday Matinee!
January 17, 2016 @ 11:00 am
Our CALLE CUATRO SUNDAY MATINEE series continues with a special presentation of the beloved 1971 classic WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY!
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory is a fantasy like no other, and has been bringing joy to audiences for decades. What other film blends childlike whimsy with a bizarre surrealistic take on mass manufacturing in the way that director Mel Stuart’s surreal adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel does? In this breathlessly gleeful, exuberant and playful film, Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) has hidden five golden tickets inside of Wonka chocolate bars, and children around the world – and more than a few adults – are eager to find them! That’s because each lucky ticket-holder will win an amazing prize – an invitation to tour Wonka’s factory, a mysterious place never-before-seen by the outside world!
With his grandfather in tow, Charlie finds himself in a factory full of dreamlike things: edible wallpaper, fizzy lifting drinks, three-course-meal chewing gum, and geese that lay golden eggs. Strange dangers, however, lurk around every corner. Watch as orange-skinned, green-haired little people sing songs about children being dropped into furnaces, or turned into giant blueberries! Will Charlie make it?! Round up the kids – and your fellow young-at-heart film lovers – for an exciting, jubilant journey at The Frida Cinema!

“A polarizing, but classic piece of children’s entertainment filled with whimsy, horror, comedy and imagination.” – R.L. Shaffer, IGN DVD
“It’s all wonderfully colorful and imaginative, and filled with a multitude of references and jokes that will be understood only by adults.” – Steve Biodrowski, ESplatter
