A mesmerizing drama/ghost story that took home the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Olivier Assayas' PERSONAL SHOPPER comes to The Frida for a one-week engagement Friday, March 31 - Thursday, April 6.
Kristen Stewart, once again working with Assayas after her multiple-award-winning turn in his Clouds of Sils Maria, plays Maureen, a young American who navigates the fashion underworld in Paris as part of her stint as a personal shopper for a celebrity. In grief over the recent death of her twin brother, with whom she shared the ability to communicate with spirits, Maureen returns to their home in Paris in the hopes of connecting with him. Soon, she starts to receive ambiguous messages from an unknown source...

On Tuesday, April 4 - the date on which George Orwell's classic character Winston Smith begins writing his journal in Orwell's landmark 1949 novel - The Frida Cinema joins 90 cinemas across the country in screening director Michael Radford's 1984. Along with fellow art house cinemas such as Alamo Drafthouse, IFC Center, and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, our shared aim is to voice our collective protest of many of our current administration's policies and practices - and most specifically as art house cinemas, their alleged proposed cuts on cultural programs, including the entire elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts.Find out more »
