#BLM: BLACK HISTORY MONTH STREAMING CINEMA COLLECTION

To celebrate Black History Month, The Frida Cinema curated a collection of fifteen films spanning over 100 years of cinematic storytelling. The collection includes Oscar Micheaux’s drama Within Our Gates (1920), the earliest surviving feature film by an African-American director, remastered by Kino Lorber as part of their Pioneers of African American History collection. Bill Gunn’s Ganja & Hess (1974), revolutionary genre-bending film that blurs the lines between blaxploitation and horror. Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami (2018), Sophie Fiennes’s documentary about the pop culture mega-icon that goes beyond the traditional music biography, offering a portrait as stylish and unconventional as its subject. The collection will give viewers the opportunity to delve into the diverse lives, historic accomplishments, and award-winning filmmaking of some of the most influential African American entertainers in history.

#BLM: Black History Month Collection is available all month long at The Frida Streaming Cinema and a portion of every ticket purchased directly supports The Frida Cinema.
