Director Ridley Scott’s classic 1979 science-fiction/horror masterpiece Alien returns to the Frida Cinema, in celebration of its 40th Anniversary!

As the crew of the Nostromo, a space merchant vessel, travels back to Earth, they are awoken from their deep sleep to a distress call from the nearby planet LV-426. Led by Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt) and Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver in a breakthrough performance), the Nostromo crew discovers that the distress transmission was actually a horrific warning: there is something on the planet, a being that should have never been awoken and unearthed…

With breathtaking alien designs by the legendary artist H.R. Giger, and Oscar-winning visual effects, the game-changing genre-bender Alien – essentially, a spooky haunted house thriller that swaps a murky castle with an eerily sterile and silent spaceship, and the lurking spectre with one of cinema’s most terrifying creature creations – boasts a supporting cast including Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto.  In 2002, Alien was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in the United States National Film Registry, noting the film as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
