Legendary screen icons Sônia Braga and Udo Kier star in this thrilling and wholly unique award-winner. Bacurau, a small village in the Brazilian sertão, mourns the loss of its matriarch, Carmelita, who lived to be 94. Days later, its inhabitants notice that their village has literally vanished from online maps — and shortly thereafter, a UFO-shaped drone is seen flying overhead, setting the change for a genre-bending confrontation between a menacing force, and the resourceful citizens of little Bacurau.
“Rating: 5/5. Prepare to be amazed.” – Charlotte O’Sullivan, London Evening Standard
“Like last year’s Academy Award-winning Parasite, Bacurau manages to turn the class struggle into inventive entertainment without its overall message losing any of its potency.” – Lee Jutton, Film Inquiry
“It crams elements of the western, John Carpenter-y beats, mordant wit and peppery political commentary into one hugely entertaining modern exploitation flick.” – Philip De Semlyen, Time Out
