Our second volunteer of the month pick is selected by Hiroki Funahashi, who has chosen Stephen Daldry’s powerful dance drama Billy Elliot!
Set amidst the turmoil of the miners’ strike in 1980s Britain, the film stars Jamie Bell as the titular boy. Born into a working class family, young Jamie finds himself drawn to ballet. Against negative social pressure and the disapproval of his own father, Billy manages to explore his newfound passion and become a talented dancer.
A critical and financial success, Billy Elliot earned 13 nominations at the British Academy Film Awards and won three.
