Weekend morning family classic matinees are back at The Frida!  We’re kicking off this year’s series with 2009’s Coraline, director Henry Selick’s (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach) adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s popular book by the same name!

Coraline Jones is bored. Having moved with her parents from Michigan to Oregon, Coraline misses her friends and her old life. Her neighbors are a little strange, and her parents are distracted with their jobs. Forced to explore her new home alone, Coraline discovers a small, blocked-off door in her living room which can only be opened by a special button key. Behind this door is a new world, the Other World, an alternative to the life Coraline has always known.  But as she begins to explore this Other World, Coraline discovers that everything is not what it seems, and what was once a fun adventure now becomes a fight to save what she loves!

The first feature released by the stop-motion legends at Laika Entertainment (ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings), Coraline features the voice talents of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Ian McShane, and Keith David.

Winner: Best Children’s Feature Film – BAFTA Children’s Awards

Nominated: Best Animated Feature – Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards
