Frida After Dark wraps up this month with Freeway, a uniquely-90s take on the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
Kiefer Sutherland plays Bob Wolverton, a respected authority by day and child killer by night. He comes across Vanessa Lutz (Reese Witherspoon) a 15-year-old girl hitchhiking her way to her grandmother’s house in Los Angeles. After gaining her trust, Wolverton goes in for the kill but is shot by the young teen and left for dead. Unfortunately, he doesn’t die and poor Vanessa finds herself on trial against the self-confessed serial murderer.
A darkly comedic riff on the classic fairy tale, Freeway makes for perfect late-night viewing with friends.
“‘Freeway’ is rude in the way the truth is rude — only funnier. The movie seduces with its humor, all the while presenting a realized vision of a harsh, absurd world.” – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle
“Darkly humorous, witty and nasty.” – Emanuel Levy, EmanuelLevy.com
“‘Freeway’ illuminates our secret appetites. Like all good satire, it starts where the others end.” – Roger Ebert, RogerEbert.com
