What happens when you’re a teenage boy and you suspect your nextdoor neighbor is a vampire who’s been killing off the locals? You call a vampire hunter, of course! Unfortunately for Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale), he’s a horror cinema junkie, so of course no one believes him (except best friend and fellow horrorhound “Evil” Ed (Stephen Geoffreys) – and the only vampire hunter he knows of is Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), a washed-up local-cable horror host who, like everyone else, thinks Charley is nuts. But when Charley finally convinces Peter to meet the mysterious Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon), Peter is shocked to find that the kid may be right – but will he have what it takes to actually become the vampire hunter he portrays, and in time to save Charley’s virginal girlfriend Amy (Amanda Bearse) from becoming Peter’s next victim?
A pitch-perfect blend of scares, laughs, and gruesome effects, Tom Holland’s Fright Night is a masterful genre-blender that was ahead of its time in paving the way for films Scream and Shaun of the Dead in successfully serving both comedy and terror, brimming with of-its-time style. Join us in welcoming visionary writer-director Tom Holland – who also gave horror lovers their beloved Chucky with his 1988 classic Child’s Play – to The Frida Cinema!
