From indie horror/genre distributor IFC Midnight comes I Trapped the Devil, a twisted horror film by first-time director Josh Lobo.
Christmas is supposed to be a time for peace and joyful family reunions, but when Matt (AJ Bowen ofYou’re Next and The House of the Devil) and his wife Karen (Susan Burke) show up unannounced at the home of his estranged brother Steve (Scott Poythress), they are instead greeted with a horrifying surprise: trapped in the basement of Steve’s house is a man. To make matters worse, Steve believes that his hostage is none other than the devil himself. As shock and skepticism turn to fear and paranoia, Matt and Karen find themselves facing a terrifying quandary: is Steve dangerously unhinged? Or could the mysterious stranger really be evil incarnate?
“Easily the most chilling film I’ve seen in 2019 so far.” – Felix Vasquez Jr., Cinema Crazed
“A slow-burn tale of paranoia and familial obligation that does crawl out of the gate, but crescendos into one satisfying ending. It may be small scaled in terms of setting and characters, but Lobo’s debut is ambitious in effort.” – Meagan Navarro, Bloody Disgusting
“★★★★. It may sound like I Trapped the Devil is an absurdist dark comedy or a boring thought exercise, but the experience of watching it makes for a tense, slow-burn horror film.” – Deirdre Crimmins, HighDef Digest
