This event is SOLD OUT!
Join us in welcoming legendary vocalists Ted Neeley and Yvonne Elliman for a special presentation of director Norman Jewison’s 1973 film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar!
Neeley and Elliman both received Golden Globe nominations for their roles as Jesus and Mary in this dazzling and powerful interpretation of the final weeks before Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion. Told mostly from the point of view of Judas Iscariot (a towering Carl Anderson, who received Golden Globe nominations for both Best Actor and Most Promising Newcomer), the film presents political and interpersonal struggles between Judas, who is dissatisfied with the direction in which his friend is steering his disciples, and Jesus, whose enthused focus on his mission and message threatens the lives of all involved. Shot entirely on location in Israel, the rock opera’s passionate lyrics are layered with contemporary attitudes, sensibilities, and slang, with anachronistic allusions to modern life intentionally scattered throughout the depiction of political events.
Sing-Along Version of the film (with on-screen lyrics!) will be introduced by Ted Neeley and Yvonne Elliman, who will then meet and greet audience members in our lobby after the screening!
