Doors/Merch Table at 6pm!
Film at 7pm!
In celebration of the worldwide release of the new Extended version of documentary Superstars (which will be available for sale in our lobby, starting at 6pm!), we invite you to join us in welcoming legendary vocalist Ted Neeley and legendary on-set photographer David James for a special presentation of director Norman Jewison’s 1973 film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar!
Neeley received a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Jesus in this dazzling and powerful interpretation of the final weeks before Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion. Told mostly from the point of view of Judas Iscariot (a towering Carl Anderson, who received Golden Globe nominations for both Best Actor and Most Promising Newcomer), the film presents political and interpersonal struggles between Judas, who is dissatisfied with the direction in which his friend is steering his disciples, and Jesus, whose enthused focus on his mission and message threatens the lives of all involved.
Shot entirely on location in Israel, the rock opera’s passionate lyrics are layered with contemporary attitudes, sensibilities, and slang, with anachronistic allusions to modern life intentionally scattered throughout the depiction of political events.
Doors will open for this event at 6pm, and the film will start at 7pm after a preshow and introduction, so make sure to arrive early! Stick around after the film, meet Ted Neeley, and grab a copy of the BRAND NEW extended documentary about the making of the movie entitled Superstars!
