The first entirely oil-painted feature film, directors Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman’s Loving Vincent comes to The Frida November 24th – 30th. Advance tickets now available at box office, or online by clicking here.
Already the winner of four international awards, Loving Vincent takes a revolutionary approach in relating the last days of famed artist Vincent Van Gogh, as each of the film’s 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, created in the same technique as Van Gogh by a team of 115 painters. A true first-of-its-kind film that mesmerizes from start to finish, Loving Vincent explores the life and unusual death of Van Gogh via depictions of his artworks, and seen through the eyes of a young man who arrives in the painter’s hometown to deliver the troubled artist’s final letter, and who ends up investigating his final days there.
“One of the most lunatic labors of love to appear on movie screens this year. And in that sense, a fitting, miraculous tribute to its subject.” – Joe McGovern, Entertainment Weekly
“An engrossing exploration of the artist’s final days rendered in his signature painting style.” – Serena Donadoni, Village Voice
“Loving Vincent is almost too beautiful for its own good; I found myself, too often, so dazzled by the form that I quite forgot about the content.” – Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times
“Brings a poetic sense of tragedy to the last act of van Gogh’s life, and fresh insight into the kind of man he was.” – Peter Debruge, Variety
