Malcolm X

Revisit the life of a revolutionary with Malcolm X, Spike Lee’s epic biographical drama about the legendary black activist.

Starring Denzel Washington, the film traces Malcolm’s incredible rise from humble, troubled origins to becoming one of the nation’s foremost advocates of black empowerment. A minister for the Nation of Islam, Malcolm’s relationship with the controversial religious organization becomes increasingly strained over the course of his life. At the same time, he never wavers in his commitment to improving the living conditions of black people, speaking forcefully against racism and corruption even as enemies–both within and without the Nation of Islam–plot his demise.

Drawing largely from the autobiography coauthored by Malcolm and Alex Haley, Malcolm X earned Washington an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
