December closes with a Film Club members-only screening of Noah Baumbach’s new dramedy Marriage Story.
Starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, the movie features the two as Charlie and Nicole Barber, a theatrically-inclined couple that is working through marital troubles. When Nicole receives an offer for a TV pilot in LA, she takes her son and leaves Charlie behind in New York. Although the two end the relationship on an initially good note, Nicole and Charlie begin to reflect on their time together and things start to ugly between them.
Nominated for six Golden Globe awards, Marriage Story is a tender look at love and separation carried by strong performances from Driver and Johansson.
No tickets are required for this special screening, just show your Frida Film Club membership card upon arrival and you’re good to go!
“At its best, this movie is searing. It pinpoints many of the little talked-about aspects of divorce that seem the least significant but hurt the most.” – James Berardinelli, ReelViews
“Johansson and Driver are remarkably, heartbreakingly good in every scene; showing their characters’ journeys to an unflinching camera, letting the gap between them get wider yet unable, for their son’s sake, to completely walk away.” – Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times
“Marriage Story is unrelenting and discomfiting – and one of the year’s best films.” – Allen Adams, The Maine Edge
