The Frida Cinema continues its John Carpenter month with his 1987 supernatural horror classic, Prince of Darkness!
While researching the belongings of a fellow clergyman who passed away, a priest (Donald Pleasence) discovers a vile holding a mysterious green fluid. After he brings his discovery to a physics professor (Victor Wong), a team of scientists and students begin analyzing the slime, and soon make a shocking discovery – the substance is the liquefied essence of Satan, and its very existence threatens the entire world.
Despite being once of Carpenter’s lowest grossing films, Prince of Darkness has taken on cult classic status, and is a favorite among horror-heads. Alternately creepy, atmospheric, and B-movie insane, the film features an intelligent script and a terrific synth soundtrack, as well as game performances by Pleasence, Victor Wong, Susan Blanchard, and rock star Alice Cooper.
Directed by John Carpenter. 1987. Rated R. 102 minutes.
