Universally considered one of the greatest Hollywood musicals, directors Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen’s 1952 classic Singin’ in the Rain is coming to the Frida!

Set at the dawn of talking pictures, Singin’ in the Rain follows silent film star Don Lockwood (Kelly) through the disastrous production of his studio’s first talkie, The Duelling Cavalier. Desperate for a hit, Don and his friends Kathy and Cosmo (Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor) hatch a plan to save the picture by turning it into a musical. The only problem? Don’s vain, scheming co-star Lina Lamont is setting her own plan in motion–a plan meant to obscure the fact that her marquee face hides a much less attractive voice.

Shot in luminous Technicolor and featuring some of the most technically stunning dance sequences ever captured on film, Singin’ in the Rain was one of the first 25 films selected for preservation in the National Film Registry at the Library of Congress 1952.

Directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen. 102 minutes. Rated G

“The ultimate nostalgic source text is itself a po-mo homage to a lost moment.” –  Jessica Winter, The Village Voice

“If you’ve never seen it and don’t, you’re bonkers.” –Stephen Garrett, TimeOut
