W.D. Richter’s 1984 sci-fi cult classic The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension comes to The Frida Cinema March 8th!
Buckaroo Banzai does it all: rocket scientist and neurosurgery by day, kung-fu hero and rockstar by night, with his talented and loyal crew, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, along for the ride. After his successful test of the Oscillation Overthruster—a device that allows him to travel through solid matter by entering the 8th dimension—evil aliens, Red Lectroids from Planet 10, covet his latest technology and threaten to invade Earth. Buckaroo Banzai and his friends are called upon to save the world and stop the evil creatures.
This quirky sci-fi comedy is a loose series of bizarrely humorous set pieces, parodying both classic and contemporary science fiction films and boasting a veritable who’s who of Hollywood actors: Peter Weller as Buckaroo Banzai, John Lithgow as Lord Dr. Emilio Lizardo/John Whorfin, Ellen Barkin as Penny Priddy, Jeff Goldblum as New Jersey, Christopher Lloyd as John Bigboote, and many more!

“Richter’s comic genre hybrid comes complete with its own mythology, and team of established superheroes, and is curiously appealing.” – Geoff Andrew, Time Out
“A state-of-the-art spaceship flying at the speed of light without narrative coordinates, Buckaroo Banzai is the very oddest good movie in many a full moon.” – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine
“Buckaroo Banzai may well turn out to be a pilot film for other theatrical features, though this one would be hard to top for pure, nutty fun.” – Vincent Canby, New York Times
