In this remake of the classic Oscar-nominated French farce La Cage aux Folles, Williams plays Armand Goldman, gay owner of popular Miami drag club The Birdcage, and husband to the flamboyant and emotional performer Albert (Nathan Lane). Their life of luxury is interrupted when Armand’s son Val (Dan Futterman) comes to visit, and informs them that he is getting married to his girlfriend Barbara (Calista Flockhart) – and what’s more, Barbara is the daughter of controversial Republican Sen. Kevin Keeley (Gene Hackman). When Keeley finds himself mixed up in a sex scandal, he and his wife Louise (a scene-stealing Dianne Wiest) decide that the marriage of their daughter might just provide the positive spin that will diffuse all the negative press – unaware that her future in-laws are a gay couple. All this gets extra complicated when the Keeley’s decide to escape the press by driving out to Miami to hide out at the Goldmans’…
