Except for a handful of film festival and special appearances, the classic animated feature The Last Unicorn has been relegated to home video since its original release in 1982. For most of its many millions of fans, the small screen is the only way they’ve ever been able to see it. Thankfully for fans of this wonderful film, after a recent tour of a 2K Remaster, Park Circus has acquired the Rankin/Bass classic, and we’ll be bringing it to you May 26 & 27 at The Frida!
Based on the 1968 fantasy novel by author Peter S. Beagle, and featuring beloved songs by rock band America, The Last Unicorn finds the last remaining unicorn (voiced by Mia Farrow) leaving the safety of her home in the lilac woods in the hope that she will find another unicorn somewhere in the world. Almost instantly captured by a traveling circus, the unicorn meets fledgling wizard Schmendrick (Alan Arkin), and the two embark on a wondrous and thrilling adventure that takes them to the castle of the mysterious King Haggard (Christopher Lee), and a fateful confrontation with the evil Red Bull.

“A story filled with genuine sweetness and mystery.” – Janet Maslin, New York Times
“Rating: 9/10. Has a screenplay that’s among the most literate ever written in the English language for what certainly would appear, from all the evidence, to be a ‘children’s movie.'” – Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy
“We don’t see stories like this anymore. In point of fact, we never did…which makes this movie all the more wonderful.” – Rob Vaux Mania.com
