Return to the wonderful world of Fantasia as we present Wolfgang Petersen’s classic 1984 fantasy film, The NeverEnding Story!
Based on the novel by Michael Ende, this childhood favorite tells the story of Bastian (Barret Oliver) who discovers a book called The NeverEnding Story. The book tells of Fantasia, a world threatened by “The Nothing,” a darkness that destroys everything it touches. The kingdom enlists the help of a boy, Atreyu (Noah Hathaway), and his faithful horse, Artax. Soon, Bastian realizes his fate may be intertwined with that of the novel’s hero.
Following in the footsteps of The Dark Crystal, The NeverEnding Story is a perfect blend of German Romanticism and 80’s nostalgia from German filmmaker Wolfgang Petersen. Germany’s highest-budgeted film at the time, the film features terrific special effects, incredible music, and possibly the coolest dragon ever — Falkor the Luck Dragon! A fantasy epic for the ages, The NeverEnding Story is a cinematic testament of the power of imagination and storytelling.
