August 5 @ 10:00 pm
Santa Ana-based StoopDown Photography has given DTSA the John Carpenter treatment – and we’re celebrating with a special screening of 1988 cult classic THEY LIVE!
Artists Michael Ziobrowski, Alejoh Candelo, and and Federico Medina will be opening a fantastic photography show on Saturday August 5, 6pm – 10pm, at Mission Bar featuring Santa Ana locations and citizens as seen through the lens of John Nada’s all-telling sunglasses, revealing the hidden aliens and messages which rule our lives and control our every move! Beyond hosting this unique exhibition on their walls, Mission Bar will also be hosting drink specials, including $4 Happy Hour prices all day and night for ticket holders of our 10pm screening! But the art doesn’t stop there – The Frida’s walls will also host works by Ziobrowski and Candelo, as well as some surprise themed displays we’ve got up our sleeves…
After the art show, swing by The Frida for a 10pm screening of the film that’s inspired this great show, They Live! Professional wrestler (Roddy Piper) stars as John Nada, a wanderer void of any meaning in his life, who discovers a pair of sunglasses capable of showing the world the way it truly is: infested with aliens who are employing a form of commercialism-based mind control to keep humans calm and unconsciously subservient. Realizing that most of the social elite are these skull-faced aliens bent on world domination, Nada employs the help of Frank (Keith David), a fellow co-worker who puts up a rather infamous cinematic struggle before finally seeing the light, and two of them set out to free humanity and save the world!
Buy your tickets online, or get them early at The Frida, and take your tickets down to Mission Bar – just two blocks from the cinema – to check out some great art and enjoy Mission Bar’s celebrated assortment of draft beers for only $4!
