Join us Saturday, February 15th for a very special screening of a Frida Cinema favorite – director Jonathan Glazer’s mesmerizing 2014 sci-fi thriller Under the Skin – highlighted by a book signing and discussion with Maureen Foster, author of “Alien in the Mirror: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Glazer, and Under the Skin.”
Copies of Alien in the Mirror will be available at the event for $39.99, while supplies last – or you can pre-purchase your book along with your film ticket – click here!
Book signing begins at 6pm! Our friends at Larry Edmunds Bookshop will be on hand with author Maureen Foster to sell copies of “Alien in the Mirror,” the first book to be written about this landmark cinematic work of art, revisiting the film scene-by-scene through all its cinematic elements. Extensive interviews detail the challenges the filmmakers faced—from hidden filming on the streets of Glasgow to defying a blizzard in the Scottish Highlands. Readers are invited to explore connections between the movie and its science fiction cousins and discover the reasons why Under the Skin deserves to find a wider audience.
Then at 7:30pm, join us as we present Under the Skin, a masterpiece of existential science fiction that journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial–or something in between. A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring a succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again. Based on the novel by Michel Faber (The Crimson Petal and the White), Under The Skin examines human experience from the perspective of an unforgettable being who grows increasingly comfortable in her borrowed skin. Screening will be followed by a discussion with author Maureen Foster.
Book will be available for sale in lobby, while supplies last. Don’t miss this one-night-only event!
