World of Animation: OKKO’S INN

Are you an Orange County student currently in Grades 7th through 12th?  If so, State Street Foundation and The Frida Cinema invite you to join us for our FREE World of Animation series, which takes place Tuesdays at 3:30pm from October 5th – November 23rd! Don’t worry if you’ve missed some screenings — register anytime, and jump in for the rest of the series!  Information and registration for this free series can be found at thefridacinema.org/world-of-animation!

On Tuesday, November 2nd, join us for Okko’s Inn, a 2018 anime film from GKIDS! When Okko loses her parents in a car accident, she moves in with her grandmother out in the country. Living in the old inn that her grandma owns and operates, Okko trains to eventually take over for her grandma by helping out with chores around the building. However, her new, humdrum life is interrupted by friendly spirits that only she can see, who invite her to explore the magical environment she now finds herself in.

“It’s no accident that the loopy and whimsical series of events recalls Miyazaki’s work.” – Ruben Rosario, MiamiArtZine

“Anime ghost story rich with Japanese culture, grief.” – Tara McNamara, Common Sense Media

“It’s possibly one of those children’s films best appreciated by grown-ups, yet its faith in younger viewers to cope with its essentially serious themes make for an unusual offering that’s both culturally fascinating and emotionally affecting.” – Trevor Johnston, Radio Times
