Other Music:
A Conversation with Bill Michelle, owner of Left of the Dial Records

Watch new documentary Other Music, opening Friday, April 17th at The Frida via at-home streaming!  Then join us this Wednesday, April 22nd at 7pm as we talk to Bill Michelle, owner of Downtown Santa Ana indie record store Left of the Dial Records, in a Live Stream conversation which will be hosted on our YouTube channel!

Bill will be joining The Frida Cinema’s Executive Director Logan Crow to discuss Other Music, a new documentary from Oscilloscope Laboratories which chronicles the landmark New York City record store of the same name. Other Music was influential and uncompromising, vital to the city’s early 2000s indie music scene. But when the store is forced to close its doors due to rent increases, the homogenization of urban culture, and the shift from CDs to downloadable and streaming music, a cultural landmark is lost. Through vibrant storytelling, the documentary captures the record store’s vital role in the musical and cultural life of the city, and highlights the artists whose careers it helped launch including Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, William Basinski, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sharon Van Etten, Yo La Tengo and TV On The Radio.
