Our Showa Godzilla series makes its first footprint with 1954's introduction to the beast itself -- Ishir? Honda's Godzilla.
Japan, forced into economic and social panic after several ships sink near Odo Island, sends an expedition to the island led by Dr. Yemani. Soon discovering something far more devastating, awaking and surfacing from the sea appears a 50 meter tall monster, whom the natives call Gojira. The monster begins a citywide rampage, threatening to destroy not only Japan, but the rest of the world as well.
The very foundation of a multimedia giant, Godzilla is the definitive creature feature, as chilling in its physicality as it is in its allegory for nuclear holocaust.
