Halloween (1978)

An annual Halloween tradition lives on with screenings of John Carpenter's 1978 horror classic Halloween.

In one of horror cinema's most iconic opening scenes, six-year-old Michael Myers puts on a mask and inexplicably murders his sister Judith on a cold Halloween night in 1963. Sentenced and institutionalized, Myers escapes 15 years later and returns to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois. With psychiatrist Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) frantically hunting him down, Michael soons set his sights on teenaged Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis), setting in motion a thrilling cat-and-mouse climax.

A critical and box office hit upon its initial release, Halloween is the third most successful independent film of all time as well as one of the most acclaimed films of the horror genre.
