High and Low -- Akira Kurosawa's Shakespearean tale of crime and noir, celebrates its 60th anniversary!
Kingo Gondo (Toshiro Mifune) is an executive of a shoe company who struggles to maintain control of his position. When he becomes a victim of extortion after his chauffeur's son is kidnapped and held for ransom (after having been mistaken for Gondo's son), Inspector Tokura (Tatsuya Nakadai) is sent to lead the case. The outcome, however, only opens up more questions than answers, plunging all involved parties into a seedy underbelly of repressed secrets.
Ranked #13 on Kinema Junpo's Greatest Japanese Films of All Time, High and Low is one of Kurosawa's standout classics, awash in gorgeous CinemaScope frames.
