Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) has a debt to pay in blood. Warned by the spectre of a former crewmate, Sparrow is forced to answer directly to Davy Jones (Bill Nighy), the tentacle-bearded captain of the Flying Dutchman, to settle a long-overdue debt or suffer eternal damnation in Jones' locker. Reunited (against his will) with Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), Sparrow will do anything to evade his obligations, even if it means having to also evade an island of cannibals, a cursed crew of fish-human hybrids, and Jones' man-eating, ship-wrecking pet, the Kraken.
Conceived and filmed back-to-back alongside 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Verbinski goes for broke as a director, unleashing a freewheeling, ravishingly entertaining spectacle of aquatic opera.
