Encuentro is the idea of Steve Sando of Rancho Gordo and Delilah Snell of Alta Baja Market celebrating beans, good food, friends and art. In its third year, Encuentro is now a 3-day event! The Frida is the host for 2 classic Mexican films selected by Steve with a short introduction before and a panel discussion after. This is the food event of the year -- don't miss out!

MACLOVIA: On the beautiful Janitzio Island, in the middle of the Pátzcuaro Lake in Michoacán in Mexico lives Maclovia (María Félix), the beautiful daughter of a leader of Purépecha Indian community (Miguel Inclán). Maclovia loves José María Lopez (Pedro Armendáriz), a young very poor Indian. Maclovia's father refuses to the marriage of the couple. José María hopes to win the favor of the old man. But the arrival of a battalion causing the conflict when the brutal sergeant (Carlos López Moctezuma) develops eyes for Maclovia.

But what gets lost and overlooked when everyone wants a piece of it? LA Times columnist, and Taco USA author Gustavo Arellano asks these questions to his contemporaries and compas (and comadre!) Bill Esparza, Chef Carlos Salgado and Susan Coss in this thought provoking discussion!
