The Frida Cinema

Orange County's Year-Round Film Festival

IN THE EARTH

Join us on Friday, April 23rd at 8:00pm at The Frida Cinema for a sneak peak screening of director Ben Wheatley’s new horror film, IN THE EARTH!

Friday, April 23rd, 8:00pm

A multi-award-winning independent filmmaker with a devoted cult following, Ben Wheatley has been making films of a remarkably singular vision at an intimidating pace since his breakthrough feature debut “Down Terrace” in 2009.

In the English summer of 2020 during a brief lull in the coronavirus pandemic, Ben Wheatley and crew set off into the woods to film the psychedelic thriller, In the Earth. In the film, Dr. Martin Lowery (Joel Fry) and park ranger Alma (Ellora Torchia) hike deep into an arboreal forest to reach the ATU327A research hub. After a night-time attack, the forest comes to life around them and their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness.

“More unsettling weirdness from director Ben Wheatley, this sci-fi/horror film is both enigmatic and brutally relevant. Filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, it digs furiously into its consequences.”
Jeffrey M. Anderson – Common Sense Media

“This is horror in the key of pandemic-psychedelic, a woozy trip into the mystic that plays like an evil twin to those “Nature Is Healing” memes.”
David Fear – Rolling Stone
