Bicycle Thieves

Special Screening of Bicycle Thieves/The Bicycle Thief Wednesday, June 26th!

Have this article read to you, listen to it like a podcast

Bicycle ThievesSet in post-World War II Italy, Vittorio De Sica’s celebrated 1948 classic Ladri di biciclette (known in the US as both The Bicycle Thief and Bicycle Thieves) follows Antonio Ricci, a desperate man who lands a job that requires the use of a bicycle. When his bicycle is stolen, Antonio (Lamberto Maggiorani) and his son Bruno (Enzo Staiola) scour Rome in a heart-wrenching quest to retrieve it, illuminating the harsh realities of the era’s economic hardships and social upheaval.

Intentionally cast with unknown, non-professional actors to best capture the struggles of ordinary people in a war-torn society, Ladri di biciclette took home the National Board of Review’s Best Picture and Best Director prizes, and is widely regarded as one of the finest films of all time.

Presented in support of our amazing volunteer, Eddie Miller

Eddie Miller Blog PicIf you’ve been to The Frida on a weekend afternoon, or swung by our booth during a DTSA First Saturday ArtWalk event, no doubt you’ve been greeted with a warm smile by our wonderful, ever-friendly volunteer Eddie Miller. Recently, Eddie had an encounter with a bicycle thief of his own, and his sole means of transportation, his beloved eBike, was stolen.

Ticket proceeds from this special screening will be donated towards the purchase of a new eBike for Eddie. We hope you’ll join us as we take in one of the great works for cinema, for a great cause in support of a great guy!
