Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan returns to The Frida Cinema for its 40th anniversary this weekend! Directed by Nicholas Meyer, the movie was widely seen as something of a course correction for the franchise from the slower, more cerebral nature of the first film back to the campy fun and dialogue-driven drama of the original TV series. Hailed for its interstellar action as well as Ricardo Montalban’s iconic performance as Khan, Star Trek II remains one of the most celebrated entries in science fiction cinema
Feeling older and aimless, and far removed from his days as a young intergalactic renegade, Admiral Kirk rejoins his crew on a three-week training exercise. When fellow Federation ship USS Reliant is on a mission to search for a lifeless planet for testing of the Genesis Device, a technology designed to reorganize matter to create habitable worlds for colonization, they come across Khan, an exiled conqueror with a blinding lust for vengeance against Kirk. What transpires is a battle of wills with all the bombast and passion of Melville’s Moby Dick.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan screens starting Saturday, Nov 27th.
