50th Anniversary Cast and Crew Reunion For Jesus Christ Superstar This Weekend!

Have this article read to you, listen to it like a podcast

Join us as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of director Norman Jewison’s Jesus Christ Superstar by welcoming the legendary Ted Neeley (Jesus), Kurt Yaghjian (Annas, the High Priest), acclaimed choreographer Rob Iscove, and set photographer David James for a special screening and Cast & Crew Reunion!

Neeley received a Golden Globe nomination for his celebrated performance as Jesus in this 1973 film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic rock opera. Taking place in the final weeks before Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion, this dazzling and powerful film is mostly from the point of view of Judas Iscariot (a towering Carl Anderson, who received Golden Globe nominations for both Best Actor and Most Promising Newcomer). Through Tim Rice’s moving libretto, the film presents political and interpersonal struggles between Judas, who is dissatisfied with the direction in which his friend is steering his disciples, and Jesus, whose enthused focus on his mission and message threatens the lives of all involved.

Shot entirely on location in Israel, the rock opera’s passionate lyrics are layered with contemporary attitudes, sensibilities, and slang, with anachronistic allusions to modern life intentionally scattered throughout the depiction of political events.

Special Event. Frida Cinema comp passes and Film Club ticket discounts not accepted.

Stick around after the film for a meet-and-greet with Ted Neeley, Kurt Yaghjian, Rob Iscove, and David James!
